Surf Life Saving Australia – The Aussies

Intandem won the contract to produce and run all the official merchandise for Surf Life Saving Australia’s major national competition, “The Aussies”.  Our research and analysis determined that there was a good sales opportunity for products, however it had to be very retail focussed and very contemporary and designed and pitched for a tight demographic in mind of probably 21-29 years old, male and female, slight skew to men.  Most of the items that we thought would sell we believed had to be very focused on a modern “memorabilia” slant, i.e., products purchased to both show others and remind yourself that you were a participant at the prestigious “Aussies”.  But it was critical that the products be useful and with a very high design focus; almost in the “street wear” type design.  They had to be both funky and commemorative.  Also, these people are extremely fit and “body proud” and we felt the items needs to fit this “mindset” as well.

 

As this was also the Centenary for “The Aussies”, we also believed that there was a good opportunity for SLSA to have the merchandise range clearly branded with the centenary logo, also helping to increase sales adding to its collectability. Based on the above, we believed the range should have a lot of full sublimated print and be designed as “high street ware” fashion.

 

As we wanted to maximise sales, there were a number of products that we believed would be very popular and sell well.  We produced additional quantities of these items and had them sitting at the screen printer ready to produce more. These included the “Competitor Name” T-Shirt as well as the ladies half zip top and training shorts.  All these products were re-printed within the first three days of the event and so we never ran out of stock and more stock was available on site for sale by day 5 of the event.  Most of these products sold out.  This “just in time” production model enables Intandem to maximise sales.

 

 

The final range had about 30 products and all were sold on-site by Intandem at “The Aussies” on the Gold Coast as well as post event via online.  The following were some of the main products produced.
